一、Please complete the English work we have given you over the Summer Holidays, it will help to determine your streamed level at the beginning of the year.
Recommended Reading List
At Xiwai International Middle School, fewer than ten percent of students comprehend English language fiction at a reading level that meets American national standards. Common Core offers the following overlapping Lexile bands, which Xiwai uses to classify its library collection and to better match each student’s ability. Grades 6 to 8 students in North America are expected to read at a lexile of 860L to 1010L. Most Xiwai MS students, however, are better challenged with books ranging from 500L to 800L, equivalent to common core targets in grades 3 to 5.
Much of the Middle School library books with a Lexile below 800L have a content intended for primary school students. Middle Schoolers complain that the plot is too juvenile. To encourage your child to read at an appropriate skill level, the following titles are recommended for their young teen-appropriate content. Most of the titles listed below are award winning books and/ or recommended reading for middle school students in Canada or the USA. To determine their current lexile band, students should consult with their English teacher.
