Wisdom Teaching—returning the class back to students智慧教学—把课堂还给学生

春日迟迟,西外校园卉木萋萋。教学第十周在紧张忙碌中度过,而高中国际课程部的智慧教学公开课大赛落下帷幕。这一个礼拜,高中部的各学科老师先后开展了精彩十足的智慧教学公开赛,其他老师积极参与听课评课,各个教研组都活力满满,好的idea不断迸发出来,教学呈现出一派生机景象! 

       Xiwai has been insisting on an education concept, namely, returning the class back to the students. It details the “Free thoughts, independent personality”, an educational idea proposed by Dr. Lin Min, and implements the “Wisdom Teaching” by our Executive Principal Mr. Wang. The thought “Wisdom Teaching” has already been practiced for two years in Xiwai, during which it has become gradually mature and its evident positive meaning has been proved.

 

      A good class should not be totally ruled by teachers. Rather, it should be a teacher-directed and student-oriented class. If teachers only care about their own in-class speech, then a funny phenomenon will appear: the teacher is fairly concentrated in speaking unremittingly and writing ceaselessly, while students are absent-minded and puzzled. Such classes make both teachers and students tired and fail to achieve high proficiency. Then, how to increase the enthusiasm of the students in the class and lengthen the effective time in the class? “Wisdom Teaching” will tell it apart. 


      In a class guided by “Wisdom Teaching”, the teacher is an instructor and a planner of activities, while students are the participants and executors. Therefore, this newly proposed teaching idea is obviously the opposite of traditional spoon-feed teaching, which fares well in increasing the activeness of students to participate in class activities, making them aware their responsibility of putting the whole class ahead. 


       In such a class, the students are given freer minds and divergent thinking, where they can say whatever they want, thus become more brave and active.

      We have been advocating quality education, to set students free from the shackles of homework and books. Yet, at the same time, we are also afraid of the side effect that students will learn less and be eliminated. As a result, many teachers and parents swing between the exam-oriented education and quality education: nature liberation or high scores?  The solution is “Wisdom Teaching”, which is capable not only   of enhancing students' comprehensive ability like awareness of teamwork, sense of responsibility, ability of expression and organization, but of improving their grades. Score isn’t equal to performance, and the overall quality is the absolute principle!

      语文、数学、物理、化学、历史、戏剧、英语等,十几门学科的老师竞相开课,参赛的老师都各显神通,师生互动,课堂气氛生动有趣,教学效果十分明显。

 

      高二的化学课,吴老师带着学生做实验,探寻化学的奥妙。学生自己动手,将课上学到的理论知识运用到实践中去,探究出一个个化学小秘密。整堂课,学生都徜徉在化学知识的海洋里。


      李老师的英语课,学生就共享单车问题进行了积极讨论。这是一堂生动的生活课,因为目前共享单车已成为我们生活的一部分;这是一堂学生教学生的课,也是一堂头脑风暴式的写作课,学生讨论之余,也积累了写作素材、句子语法等。


      高一焦老师的历史课,讲授美国独立战争。这是一节戏剧表演和历史相结合的新型课。学生们扮演不同人物和国家,对整个独立战争的过程进行分析和表演。课堂上笑声连连、掌声不断!


      还有吴燕老师的英语课,带领学生读英文诗写英文诗,学生诗兴大发,俨然成为了一个个有着“诗心”的小诗人!英国浪漫主义诗人华兹华斯的诗歌自由宁静,学生沉浸在这优美的诗歌中,静静地体会诗人“平静中回忆的情感”(emotion recollected in tranquility——

 

       I wandered lonely as a cloud

      That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

      When all at once I saw a crowd,

      A host of golden daffodils;

      Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

      Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

       ……

      这如云般自由自在的感觉,正是“独立之人格,自由之思想”的办学理念啊!


      还有化学课,戏剧课,语文课……每堂公开课都十分精彩,学生受益良多。而它们所以成功的原因就是:把课堂还给学生。

       把课堂还给学生,是西外一直以来坚持的教育理念,是我校总校长林敏博士“自由之思想,独立之人格”的教育思想的具体化,也是执行校长王校“智慧教学”理论的具体实践。“智慧教学”在西外开展已有两年了,理论基本成型,实践也渐渐成熟。两年的时间和经验证明“智慧教学”所产生的教学效果是非常明显的。


       一个好的课堂,不应该是教师的一言堂,而应该是以教师为主导,学生为主体的课堂。如果教师只顾自己说,那么我们的课堂经常会出现这样让人啼笑皆非的景象:老师在讲台上指点江山挥斥方遒,在黑板上奋笔疾书,而我们的学生呢,神游太空,昏昏欲睡……这样的课堂老师累,学生也累,效率还低。那怎样才能提高学生听课的积极性,提升一堂课的有效时间呢?“智慧教学”课堂的作用就体现了。

      “智慧教学”课堂里,教师是一个引导者,活动的策划者,而学生成为具体的参与者和执行者。智慧教学显然是与填鸭式教学截然相反的教学方式,他更有利于促进学生参与课堂活动的积极性,吸引学生的注意力,让学生觉得自己是课堂的主人,对课堂整体运行负有责任。

       这样的课堂,学生思想足够自由,思维得到发散,想我所想,畅所欲言,更大胆,更积极,更活跃!


       我们一直倡导素质教育,提倡让学生从作业和书本的紧箍咒中走出来,不愿学生成为书呆子。但又怕过于松懈而适得其反,怕学生学不到知识,最后被淘汰。于是,很多老师家长在应试教育和素质教育中终日徘徊纠结:是解放孩子天性还是追求高分数,高成绩?而智慧教学的意义就在于,它即可以促进学生综合能力的发展:团队合作意识,责任感,表达能力,组织能力等,也不耽误学生学习知识,提高成绩。分数不等于成绩,综合素质才是硬道理!


       智慧教学作为学校主推的教学模式,会致力于提升学生的综合素质,在西外一直走下去。
