¨ As you may have heard from your student, every 4-6 weeks Xi Wai International School will celebrate a special Character Education Theme. The Virtue for this month is Global Citizenship. You may have even seen the signs around the school celebrating Global Citizenship. What is Global Citizenship? Every country wants to have good citizens, but Xi Wai also wants its citizens to adopt standards and practices that are internationally accepted. Ask your child what a Xi Wai Global Citizen should do and not do:
«– Be well educated. Know how to read, to write, to think analytically, and to understand the world around us.
«– Be lawful and obey the rules. This includes the rules in the country, as well as our own classroom and school rules!
«– Walk, don’t run, in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, library, etc. Running can lead to falls and injuries.
«– Walk on the right half of the corridor, staircase, or sidewalk, so that on-coming people can share the walkway.
«–Treat others kindly, the way YOU would like to be treated! Be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. Recognize that every person is a special individual, with rights, and feelings, and needs for space. Do not push or shove. Do not cut in line. Do not speak or act with meanness or disrespect. Do not be rude.
«– Help your teachers, friends, neighbors, and families. What can YOU do to help the people who help YOU every day?
«– Volunteer for worthy causes. What can YOU do to help people in the world who are less fortunate than you?
«– Help take care of our precious planet and environment, and promote good health and hygiene at the same time! Turn of electricity whenever possible. Do not spit. Do not litter, and DO pick up trash that you see on the ground. Practice the “3 R’s” -- Reduce your use of resources. Re-use what ever you can (including the back side of paper). And Recycle plastic, glass, and paper trash.
«– Show your respect for your country by being patriotic. Respect the world by promoting peace, understanding, and tolerance. Celebrate National Day and be a Good Global Citizen!
¨ Coffee and caffeinated drinks are not healthy for young students! Parents, please inform your children that they should NOT eat or drink products containing caffeine every day. Daily caffeine, even if ingested only in the morning, can interfere with sleep at night. Over time, students will become addicted to these products. Caffeine does long-term damage to the liver and kidneys. Xi Wai teachers will begin educating students about the dangers of caffeine addiction, and will ask the campus store to stop selling caffeinated products to students.
¨ Please remember there is NO SMOKING ALLOWED anywhere on campus.
