Seasons of English——English Homework Exhibition

涉过冬季,漫过春季,英语在学生的四季年轮里幻化出了不同的色彩。寒假作业应该也独占一份功劳。 


For our winter holiday homework this year, we in Grade 7 created two tasks.  The first was to write a six-page diary, talking about a variety of topics, such as “Your Travels” & “Your Star”.

Beyond the obvious writing practice this enabled, each of these topics fits in with what we plan to study in the coming term, giving the students time to warm up their brains to the thinking and vocabulary needed.  The second task was to use some of the vocabulary we had learnt during the last term to create a poster about a famous expedition.  This involved researching a person who went on an expedition into the unknown, and writing about their journey.

We also wanted the students to write about how this journey changed the world, which required both critical thinking, and expressing an opinion, which are both important traits to develop during education.  These tasks should give the students the confidence they need to make great progress with their English learning this term.

 今年寒假作业,中学国际部7年级布置了两项任务。第一项是让学生就不同话题写六页日记,比如“你的旅行”、“你的偶像”。这一写作任务除了可以锻炼学生的英语写作能力,每一个话题也与我们在接下来的学期中计划学习的内容有关。我们让学生提前在寒假里预习,准备接下来学习所需要的词汇和思考。

第二项任务是用上学期所学的词汇来创作一幅关于一次著名考察探险活动的海报。这项任务要求学生研究一位涉足未知领域的探险者,并记录下他的探险旅程。

我们让学生写出这一探险家旅程是如何改变这个世界的,这要求学生要有批判性思维以及表达观点的能力——这也是教育过程中我们要培养学生的重要特质。这些任务将会给予学生们取得英语学习进步的信心。

学生作业

In Grade 6, students were asked to make English pop-up books with Spring Festival as the topic. This task not only requires students to have skills in creating new thing with their hands, but also keeps them researching and thinking. For some students who have no idea in what pop-up books look like, they spent much time in searching all information about it, pictures or videos. It helps our students learn by themselves. Some students did make very nice pop-up books. We believe that homework like this is very beneficial and enlightening.

6年级的学生则被要求做一个以春节为主题的英文立体书。 这一任务不仅要求学生要有手工制作新事物的技能,而且也促使他们不停地探索和思考。虽然有些学生不知道何为立体书,但是他们会花很多时间去查询关于立体书的所有信息,不管是图片的还是视频的。这项任务更有助于我们学生进行自主学习,提高他们主动学习的积极性。新学期伊始,我们收到了很多学生制作的很精美的立体书(见上图)。我们相信像这样的作业是非常有益且能够启迪学生的。 

There is no royal road to learning.

即使在寒假里,我们国际部的小朋友仍旧没有停下学习的脚步,一个个天马行空,妙笔生花,或在书海里畅游,或在路上行走。是啊,学不可以已,温故而知新,新学期里,希望他们继续保持这份劲儿,这份求知之欲,在暖阳如沐的春光里,萌发更多的创意。
