The Xiwai Bilingual Middle School was founded in 2010, with the dream of building an elite international learning program. One that took the best of both eastern and western educational philosophies, and blended them into a progressive, competitive and all-encompassing education institute with student-learning at its very core. Since its inception, the Bilingual Middle School has continued to flourish and grow, continually developing to provide the most challenging and comprehensive learning program for students of all levels. Xiwai aims to create students that are global thinkers, able to see the outside world holistically, whilst staying true to their national identity and to be global contributors. To be the forward-thinkers of the future for one of the fastest growing and leading nations of the 21st century, to be caring and open-minded leaders who will guide the future for the better.

To provide the best possible learning for our students, in accordance with compulsory primary and secondary education in Shanghai and the overall students' training objectives, Xiwai Bilingual School has established a three-in-one curriculum system that succeeds at integrating Chinese and Western education philosophy. The first component centers around both the domestic compulsory curriculum and Cambridge English language curriculum; The second is an extensive curriculum aimed at exposing students to more diversified vocational fields in order to create more well-rounded students and better prepare them for a dynamic 21st century world; The third is a heavily research-based curriculum which aims to cultivate students' independent learning and critical thinking skills. The goal of this curriculum approach being to provide as many developmental structured outlets as possible, to shape students into the global elite of tomorrow.

 As for the actual in-class teaching, staff from all around the nation have come to teach varying Chinese national curriculum courses, bringing their experience and expertise to our student body. The diversity amongst the Xiwai Bilingual Middle School staff is further broadened by the amalgamation of foreign teachers that have been brought from all over the globe to teach not only English language and literature, but also sciences, drama, humanities, music, physical education, art and a variety of extensive and research-based courses. Through this diverse teaching staff, students learn to experience culture and learning through the eyes of many.

 In terms of faculty and student management, we have both Chinese and foreign principals who work closely together with teaching directors and Chinese and foreign school leaders to participate and cooperate in all activities concerning students’ learning and development. We also have both Chinese and foreign homeroom teachers as well as tutors to help students physical and mental development throughout their adolescent years. The excellent Chinese and foreign joint-management ensure the department's high-quality teaching and sustainable development.

理念的先行者

双语初中课程的设置，紧紧围绕校训中“树人”两个字，在国家课程的基础上，从现代社会对人才的复合需求和全球化文化视野出发，大量引进国内外高品质师资，融合欧美教材精华，确定人才培养特性：具有独立性、批判性、创造性思维，具备积极向上、友爱平等、合作服务、互尊自尊的人格。

 平衡的课堂结构

人才素养的构成源于课程 ，我们双语初中部课程的设置注重“两条腿走路”的平衡性：一方面，严格执行国家课程，涵养中国传统文化，培养具有家国情怀，形成适合国内中考、高考的学习能力；另一方面，增加国际精英赋能，培养具有国际视野和融合国际文化的世界公民，更突出包容、分享、批判、创造等能力。

 为保证人才培养目标的实现，双语初中部组建了强大的以中青年为主中外教协作的课程团队。近60人的团队中，中方教师30余人，毕业于英美名校以及国内985、211等高校，硕士学历快速增加；外方教师20余人，来自英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚等国家，全部具有专业教师资质。

作为双语初中的课程特色，外教团队的课程已经涵盖英美基础课程精要，让低年级还不是很适合于出国留学的孩子，在国内就能享受到来自英美纯正母语的教学和课程精华。

不一般的特色课程

 课程是人才素养的调配机，西外双语为了实现办学初衷，不仅开设了很多门类的拓展课和社团课，还精心配置了不一样的课程：

（1）行走课程

“读万卷书，行万里路。”古人常常在博览群书之后去各地游学，拜访名家，如若不出家门，他们依然认为是孤陋寡闻。西外的行走课程，就是践行传统读书精理，用脚丈量祖国的广阔，用山水装点胸中丘壑。在鸣沙山的沙漠中学习环保理念，在酒泉发射塔下眺望宇宙浩瀚，在武汉大学的校园里涵泳人文智慧……行走课程对于西外学子，正铺展开徐霞客似的浪漫。

（2）阅读课程

中外名著对于青少年成长的重要性，在于智慧光芒的照射，在于美好情感的熏陶，在于文化知识的传承。我们重视学生在学校读书的空间，教室角落、楼层过道、寝室书桌，自带分享的名著如影随形；我们重视在校读书的文化氛围，课间能够翻书看，晚自习能够自觉看，寝睡前能够静心看；我们重视学生的读书习惯的养成，读书会不拘形式地遍地开花，读书摘抄、赏析和读后感时常分享。在西外，阅读与行走牵手，阅读与戏剧同登舞台。

（3）商赛课程

商赛课正成为西外孩子们家长们倍加青睐的特色课程。踊跃的报名烘托出商学课程的热潮，没有枯燥地商学知识传授，而是一场场校园模拟商赛：给到孩子们的是接近现实的商业环境，市场经济中的角色扮演。在一场商赛中涉及到学生多方面素养：案例分析、文献检索、文档排版与PPT制作、演讲与口才、编程软件、调研实践、论文写作等，极具挑战性。

凭谁问，在理财年轻化的当代和世界百年未有的大变局中，谁将胜出？我部利用深厚的资源，给孩子们奉上了一道道丰美的商学大餐。

Bilingual middle school students, after graduation, can be expected to join our outstanding graduates and be directly admitted to Xiwai International High School, who, after three years of study, are admitted by overseas universities in Britain, the United States, Canada and other countries leading in education, with a 100% acceptance rate, over 50% of which are to TOP 50 universities.
