辩论全纪实——西外辩论社苏州大捷一往无前

西外辩论社团一直致力于培养学生英文演说和思辨能力，是这些年来西外双语初中部一直高度重视的全人教育的重要部分。

几支初中和高中代表队前往苏州，共赴辩论盛宴，感受思辨风采，这也是自疫情以来举办的第一场区级校际辩论赛。台上，我校辩论队思辨技惊四座、语言思维缜密，充分展现了良好的批判思维和逻辑推理能力，丰富的知识底蕴以及团队合作能力，表现令人钦佩，更是斩获冠军奖杯。

Xiwai Debate has been dedicated to training students' English speaking competency and critical thinking.  It is also a very important part of Xiwai educational idea of nurturing our students in an all-round way.

Several middle and high school teams travelled to Suzhou to attend the first regional in person inter-school debate competition since the Cobid-19 panic and they comported themselves admirably.

本次辩论赛选手有很多学生来自六、七年级，需要和高年级学生进行比赛，但他们初生牛犊不怕虎，激烈交锋间，越战越勇，始终坚持自己的观点，在几轮比赛中取得胜利。言语交锋，论巾帼不让须眉，思维碰撞，赴唇枪舌战之宴。

更有经验的高年级辩手一如既往地出色，获得了初、高中部最佳辩手称号，但这还远远不够。在更大型、有声望的初高中公开锦标赛中，一些母语学生也参与了比赛。但是，最终我校的主辩手赢得了决赛，并把冠军奖杯带回家!

Many of the students were in 6th and 7th grade, competing against much older students and they held their own, often winning rounds again much more experience students. Our older more experienced debaters did were outstanding as usual winning best speaker awards in both Middle and high school… but the best was yet to come. In the larger more prestigious Open Championship where both middle and high school students can compete, with several native speakers in the mix, Xiwai’s leading debaters won the Final and took home the winner’s trophy!

辩论赛不只是单纯的想法表达，更是思想的碰撞与交流。“辩论”是西外双语教育的核心之一，无数拿到心仪offer的孩子都受益于它。今年斩获专业世界排名第一的UCS南加大电影学院、UCLA导演系和斯坦福大学offer的王越成同学在西外的12年里，就曾拿到过美式高中辩论赛冠军。

辩论也被众多西外学子视为自己的爱好与课余的兴趣所在。西外辩论社不仅给予同学们感知思辨的平台，让同学们在言语、思维交锋中拓宽眼界，提高自我，在辩论中明理，在思辨中进步。一直以来，西外都在为同学提供了如辩论、戏剧等的兴趣平台与课堂。“是希望孩子在实践和探索中培养出自己终生的兴趣，发现每个孩子身上的可能性。”林校长这样阐述。

西外辩论队教练Will Bond是这样总结这次西外辩论社大捷的：

这是一个美好的周末，因为这场比赛展示了我们学生的努力和毅力。他们一边努力工作一边享受比赛的过程，并取得了出色的成绩。史蒂文·赫林、马修·德拉·波拉和我都为他们感到无比骄傲，期待着看到他们在未来发光发亮。

This was a wonderful weekend which showcased the hard work determination and perseverance of our students. They worked hard, never gave up and did a fantastic job whilst having fun along the way. Steven Herring, Matthew Della Polla and myself could not be more proud of them all and we look forward to seeing them rise and shine in the future.
